Tuition increases are announced
Full-time undergraduate tuition at the University this fall will
increase by 5.3 percent for Delaware residents and 7.9 percent for
non-residents, University President David P. Roselle announced July 1.
The new tuition rates are $3,390 for Delaware residents (compared
to $3,220 for 1991-92) and $9,050 for non-residents (compared to last
year's $8,390).
"The University of Delaware remains an excellent bargain in
higher education, providing high quality education at a reasonable
cost," Roselle said. "Despite a national decline in the number of high
school graduates, the University of Delaware is the college of choice
for a record number of applicants-up 7 percent over last year.
Importantly, the quality of our incoming students also is on the rise
with the average SAT scores of the incoming class some 15 points
higher than last year.
"Students say they choose Delaware for the quality of our
academic programs, for the stature of our faculty and their commitment
to undergraduate education, for the beauty and location of our campus
and for our relatively low costs," he said.
"Careful management of University priorities and expenses, with
some 271 positions cut over the past two years, has enabled us to hold
fee increases for students and their families to a minimum," Roselle
said. "This has been accomplished in a recessive economy coupled with
rapidly escalating costs in such areas as employee benefits."
Per-credit-hour rates for undergraduates will increase to $141
(up $6) for Delaware residents and $378 (up $28) for non-residents.
Full-time tuition for graduate students is the same as
undergraduates, with the exception of those pursuing the master of
business administration (MBA) degree. Tuition for MBA students is
$4,264 for Delaware residents and $9,050 for non-residents. The new
per-credit-hour rate for graduate students will be $188 (up $9) for
Delaware residents and $503 (up $36) for non-residents. The
per-credit-hour rate for MBA students is $237 for residents and $503
for non-residents.
In May, the University's Board of Trustees approved increases in
housing and meal rates. For 1992-93, the cost of a multiple room in a
traditional residence hall will be $2,050 (an increase of $110). Meal
plans were increased by an average of 6.6 percent.
For example, the plan offering 19 meals per week was increased by
$106 to $1,706.
