Stanley I. Sandler is named interim dean of engineering
Stanley I. Sandler, Henry Belin du Pont Professor of Chemical
Engineering, is serving as interim dean of the College of Engineering,
effective July 1, Provost R. Byron Pipers has announced.
Sandler has agreed to serve until a new dean is in place.
Sandler holds a Ph.D. in chemical engineering from the University
of Minnesota and a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from City
College of New York. He joined the Delaware faculty in 1967, from
1982-86, served as chairperson of the Department of Chemical
Engineering. He is currently director of the newly formed Center for
Molecular and Engineering Thermodynamics (CMET).
Sandler also has been a visiting professor at the University of
Queensland, Brisbane; the Technische Universitat Berlin (West); the
Universidad Nacional Del Sur of Bahia, Argentina; and Imperial
College, London.
He is the recipient of numerous awards, including the 1989
Delaware Section Award of the American Chemical Society, the
Professional Progress Award of the American Institute of Chemical
Engineers, 1988 3M Lectureship Award of the American Society for
Engineering Education, the U.S. Senior Scientist Prize from the
Alexander von Humboldt Foundation, and the Camille and Henry Dreyfus
Faculty-Scholar Award.
The author of 170 papers and author or editor of eight books,
Sandler is a member of a variety of professional organizations, and is
founder of the International Symposia on Phase Equilibrium and Fluid
Properties in the Chemical Industry. He serves or has served on the
editorial boards of Chemical Engineering Education, the AIChE Journal,
the University of Delaware Press, and the Industry and Chemical
Engineering Fundamentals, the Journal of Chemical and Engineering
Data, and Industrial and Engineering Research.
