Perkins Student Center offers summer lectures, concerts, trips

     The Perkins Student Center will present a summer series featuring
faculty author lectures, local band lunchtime concerts, bus trips and
a solo Winston Churchill performance.
     The Faculty Author Spotlight Series will include five faculty
members who will read from their published works and discuss them.
     The schedule includes John Weiss, professor of art, The Face of
Baseball, June 23; Arthur Sloan, professor of business administration,
Hoffa, June 30; Carol Hoffecker, acting associate provost for graduate
studies, books on Delaware history, July 7; Jeanne Walker, professor
of English, Stories from the National Enquirer, July 14; and Cruce
Stark, professor of English, Chasing Uncle Charley, July 21.
     All the free lectures will begin at 1:15 p.m. in the Collins
Room. A book signing and reception will follow each lecture. Books
will be available for purchase, and refreshments will be served.
     "MusiCafe," the lunchtime music series, will take place on the
front patio of the Perkins Student Center from noon - 1 p.m.
     The free concerts will feature Mystery Machine, June 17; Hiram
Brown, June 24; Royal Palm Steel Band, July 1; Beat Clinic, July 8;
Matt Sevier, July 15; Keith and Laura, July 22; and Seven Wishes, July
29.
     Off-campus bus trips are scheduled, including an outing to the
game between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Chicago Cubs at 1:35
p.m., Sunday, June 21, in Veterans Stadium. Cost is $10 per person and
includes transportation and game ticket. A U.D. I. D. is required, and
one guest also will be allowed per I.D.
     Another excursion is an open itinerary bus trip to New York City
on Saturday, June 27. Cost is $20 for full-time undergraduates with a
U.D. I. D., and $25 for University graduate students, faculty and
staff.
     Tickets for both trips are on sale in 107 Perkins Student Center
from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. For more information, call 831-1296.
     The Winston Churchill performance by actor Dale Johnson of
Thespis Productions in Rolla, Mo., will be presented from 1:15-2:45
p.m., Tuesday, July 28, in Bacchus Theatre. A reception will follow
the performance.
