Parking fees to increase

     Parking fees for 1992-93 will increase to balance the projected
$1.7 million parking and transit budget, according to John Brook, vice
president for government and public relations.
     "Parking is a self-supporting operation at the University, and
the increase will pay for the creation of additional parking places,
repairs to lots, increased patrols and surveillance cameras in areas
where break-ins have occurred. Parking fees also support the
University transit system," Brook said.
     Recommendations for changes in regulations and fees were made by
the Parking and Transit Advisory Committee, chaired by Douglas Tuttle,
director of public safety. Members of the committee represent
constituencies across the campus.
     The 1992-93 budget includes an addition of 120 spaces and the
installation of surveillance cameras for Laird Campus lot 6,
additional evening lot patrols and the amortization of a 205-space lot
now under construction near the Computing Center.
     Plans are under consideration for building a parking garage near
the proposed new student center, which will have gated and hourly
parking.
     Beginning next fall, commuting freshman, sophomore and junior
students will park at the Delaware Field House, and resident student
parking will primarily be on the Laird Campus, in the North College
lot and in lots adjacent to Wyoming Road. This will avoid conflicts
with the parking needs of events at the Bob Carpenter Center, Delaware
Stadium, the Field House and Ice Arena.
     Shuttle bus service from this area will increase from 55 to 70
trips northbound per day.
     The fine for driving or parking on walks or grass, and parking in
driveways or accessways will increase from $15 to $20.
     The following fee changes will go into effect Sept. 1.
