Board of Trustees elects new members

The University of Delaware Board of Trustees elected two new
members, reelected the recent graduate trustee and reelected its slate
of officers at its semiannual meeting May 21 on the campus.
New members of the board are Dr. Joan Thompson Mobley, director
of the Department of Pathology at St. Francis Hospital in Wilmington,
and Robert Walton Gore, distinguished scientist, inventor and business
executive and president of W.L. Gore & Associates Inc. Both were
elected to six-year terms, beginning July 1.
Their election fills two vacancies on the board brought about by
the resignations of Norman E. Veasey, who has become chief justice,
and David B. Bolen, who has moved to Colorado. Bolen, who was present
at the meeting, was recognized by his fellow trustees with a standing
ovation and presented with a plaque thanking him for outstanding
service to the board.
Also at the meeting, the trustees reelected Katherine Tucci
Smith, to a one-year term, as a recent University graduate.
The trustees also reelected its slate of officers for another
year: Andrew B. Kirkpatrick Jr., chairman; Catherine B. Flickinger and
Edward G. Jefferson, vice chairmen; and John E. Burris, secretary.
