Two-year contract approved by faculty and adminstration
The University administration and the American Association of
University Professors agreed upon a new two-year contract May 22,
following several months of negotiations.
The pact was ratified before the close of the spring semester, a
goal of both parties, according to Maxine Colm, vice president for
employee relations.
Colm said she believes the settlement terms are good for everyone
involved.
Some of the highlights of the agreement include
* a 2 percent across-the-board increase in 1992-93 and 1993-94,
* 2 percent for merit increases in each year of the contract,
* 75 percent for structural adjustments in 1992-93 and in
1993-94, to be rank specific and given across the board, and
* promotion increases and salary minimums increased in each year
of the contract.
There also will be recognition of specific salary needs,
including the allocation of $200,000 in each year of the contract for
salary adjustments that address issues concerning compression,
inversion and inequity.
The University agreed to continue its share of health care costs
and to enhance major medical coverage.
In her May 18 letter to members of the faculty, Colm said the
administration's offer will keep the total compensation for University
of Delaware faculty above the median when compared with other Category
I institutions in the region.
David Colton, professor of mathematical sciences and one of the
six faculty on the negotiating team, said the contract enables
Delaware faculty to achieve greater parity with colleagues in other
area institutions. "We're happy that issue is resolved," he said.
The faculty bargaining team recommended approval by the general
faculty, which ratified the agreement with a 336-54 vote.
