Equity award-winners named
At the 1992 E. Arthur Trabant Institutional Award for Women's
Equity ceremony on May 6 were (from left) President Emeritus Trabant;
Costel D. Denson, interim dean of the College of Engineering; Barbara
Gates, professor of English; Richard Holland, assistant area
coordinator, housing and residence life; and President David P.
Roselle. The award is sponsored by the Commission on the Status of
Women.
Denson accepted the award on behalf of the College of Engineering
for its Women in Engineering Industrial Mentor Program, matching 60
women students with women engineers in local industries.
Gates, a founder of the Women's Studies Interdisciplinary
Program, is its acting director and has been an active member of
campus committees dealing with women's issues.
Holland has been a member of the Sexual Offense Support Group
(SOS) and is chairperson of Sexual Assault Awareness Week in 1991 and
1992. He has also been involved in diversity education, addressing
gender issues.
