A cappella concert in Newark Hall
     Del-A-Cappella '92 will be held at 8 p.m., Saturday, May 16, in
Newark Hall auditorium. The concert will feature campus a cappella
groups: The Deltones, The D Sharps and The Golden Blues, plus the
debut performance of the Hen Harmonics, a new men's group.
     Tickets are $4. The concert is sponsored by the D Sharps, which
will hold auditions for singers at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 20, in
the Amy E. du Pont Music Building.

Composites center to hold workshop
     The Center for Composite Materials (CCM) will hold its annual
workshop, May 19-21, in.Clayton Hall and the Composites Manufacturing
Science Laboratory.
     The dual-session will cover the basics of composites, as well as
specialized subjects in more advanced fields. Session A will include
presentations on CCM's ongoing research programs, such as liquid
molding, joining, filament winding, non-destructive evaluation,
textile structural composites, ceramic-matrix composites and
experimental mechanics.
     Session B will focus on such specialized topics as tribology,
fracture, failure mechanisms and finite element applications.
     Software and equipment demonstrations also will be provided at
the Composites Manufacturing Science Laboratory (CMSL). Demonstrations
will be combined with lectures to provide both the "know how" and the
"know why" of many manufacturing science processes.
     In addition, a self-paced program will be offered based on the
center's interactive videodisc course, Experimental Mechanics of
Composite Materials, and the Du Pont/CCM videotape series,
Introduction to Composite Materials.
     The workshop will end with a poster session, an Industrial
Advisory Board meeting and an awards banquet. Free to representatives
of CCM's industrial and Army sponsors, the workshop also is open to
all University faculty, staff and students.

Alumni set tour of St. Michaels in June
     A day of sightseeing and shopping is planned in the quaint
village of St. Michaels, Md., on Wednesday, June 24, by the
University's College of Human Resources Alumni Association.
     The public is invited to participate in the bus trip, which costs
$78.
     Itinerary includes a 90-minute guided tour of the Chesapeake Bay
Maritime Museum.
     Following the tour, the group will board the excursion boat The
Patriot for a tour along the Miles River.
     After the excursion, a luncheon of crab fingers, crab cakes,
vegetables, tossed salad and homemade pie will be served at the
Chesapeake Landing restaurant.
     Rounding out the day will be two hours of free time for shopping.
On the return trip, the bus will stop for an hour at the Pottery Barn
and outlet stores.

Touring company to present Shakespeare
     The Shenandoah Shakespeare Express, a professional, non-profit
touring company, will present free public performances of the plays
Macbeth (at 2 p.m.) and Merchant of Venice (at 7 p.m.), Saturday, May
23, in Newark Hall auditorium.
     The company's goal is to change the way people of all ages think
about Shakespeare. The touring players demonstrate the immediate and
the human in Shakespeare's plays in a clear, fast-paced fashion.

Conference to focus on shipping, ports
     Improving operations and efficiency in shipping and port
industries is the theme of the Delaware Institute for Shipping and
Port Management, to be held Aug. 2-15 at the University.
     The college-level instruction will include lectures, seminars,
exercises and demonstrations. Areas of study cover international
trade, technological changes, organization and management, finance and
accounting and maritime law and public policy.
     Persons empolyed by shipping companies, steamship carriers,
freight forwarding, terminal management, container transportation,
longshoremen organizations or customs and financial services can
benefit from the institute.

Diversity topic of teaching program
     The Center for Teaching Effectiveness will sponsor "Here's
Looking at You: A Foundation for Diversity Education" from 8:30
a.m.-4:30 p.m., Friday, May 15, in the Kirkwood Room of the Perkins
Student Center.
     Participants will explore personal attitudes related to issues of
diversity and discuss strategies for improving communication among
different groups of people.
     Registration is required and enrollment is limited.
