MISCELLANEOUS
George Malone, agricultural sciences, received a Medal of
Achievement Award from the Delmarva Poultry Industry, an
association of growers, integrators, allied industries and local
academic institutions that supports the poultry industry on the
Delmarva peninsula. Malone, an associate editor for Poultry
Science Journal, has conducted research useful to the poultry
industry on alternative bedding materials, litter management and
waste issues, including manure and carcass utilization and
disposal.
John J. Pikulski, educational development, received the Eugene S.
Farley Memorial Alumni Award from Wilkes University,
Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
Joachim Piprek, materials science, and Karl W. Boer, physics and
engineering, are working on a joint research program on deep
level delta doping in GaAs with financial support from Humboldt
University, Berlin, the Paul Drude Institute, Berlin, and the
Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, Bonn.
Selcuk I. Guceri, mechanical engineering, served as general
chairman of the First International Conference on Transport
Phenomena in Processing, March 22-26, Honolulu, attended by 140
researchers from 14 countries. Geraldine E. Hobbs, mechanical
engineering, was manager for the conference, which discussed such
techniques as crystal growth, chemical vapor deposition and laser
processing.
Thomas M. Church, marine studies, was awarded a Riker Fellowship
for joint research with Timothy Jickells of the University of
East Anglia, U.K., to synthesize atmospheric and oceanic data on
Bermuda and the Sargasso Sea.
Peter Vagenas, theatre, chaired a panel on "The Oresteia Designs:
An International Project," at 1992 United States Institute for
Theatre Technology (USITT) annual conference, Seattle.
Several faculty in the Department of Plant and Soil Sciences
moderated sessions at the 49th annual meeting of American
Phytopathology Society, Potomac Division, March 18-20, at Clayton
Hall: T.A. Evans, "Virology"; R.B. Carroll, "Mycology"; A.L.
Morehart, "Nematology and Host-Parasite Relationships"; D.A.

American Solar Energy Society to the American Association for the
