Dutch educators to visit campus
A presentation in Paris by Michael Middaugh, director of
institutional research and planning, at an Institute for Management of
Higher Education conference has led to an upcoming campus visit by 10
presidents and administrators from polytechnic institutions in the
Netherlands.
The international institute is part of the Organization for
Economic Cooperation and Development and is headquartered in Paris.
Middaugh spoke on appropriate productivity measures linking
planning and budgeting.
The Netherlands is restructuring its educational system and is
interested in learning how universities in the United States relate
strategic planning and budgeting. After his talk, representatives of
the Association of Dutch Colleges in Polytechnics approached Middaugh
to arrange a tour of American universities, where they could meet with
presidents, administrators, deans and others involved in the
planning/budgeting process.
Middaugh will accompany the group to several northeastern
universities before it arrives in Newark May 14.
"This a working tour and specifically focused on planning,
budgeting and cost containment. A few Dutch administrators will remain
on the Newark campus to learn in depth about our student aid program
and the options students have.
"I am pleased the University is receiving this kind of
international visibility for its planning and budgeting activities,"
Middaugh said.
