Safety alert

     The Department of Occupational Health and Safety recently
received notification from the Reynolds Metals Co. of a revised
determination of the hazards associated with certain solid metals.
     The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has
determined there is no health hazard associated with the shipment and
routine handling of solid (non-powdered) metal products.
     The hazards are associated with the fabrication of material,
using these products, such as in grinding, sawing and welding.

     The Reynolds Metals Co. has provided revised material safety data
sheets/label packets for the following solid metals:
          Wrought aluminum alloys (series 1xxx-8xxx)
          Alclad and cladding products (series 1xxx, 4xxx, 7xxx)
          Stainless steel
          Galvanized steel
          Copper and
          Nickel steel
