                       Schedule of courses
Developing Leadership Competencies
     This program is targeted for supervisors and managers with
several years of management experience. It is an advanced level
program in which participants examine the role of self development,
follower attributes, and the group behavior in the context of
leadership development. In addition, participants complete a self
assessment and elicit anonymous feedback from subordinates ranking
the frequency with which they practice five leader competencies.

Developing Your Career: A Self-Assessment Workshop
     Participants will analyze their talents, skills and abilities
to formulate career development plans using a variety of assessment
exercises. For individuals who wish to define career goals and
develop a realistic plan. Self-assessment prework.

Primer on Affirmative Action for Supervisors
     Review of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) laws and judicial
actions related to age discrimination, sexual harassment, Americans
with Disabilities Act and the Rehabilitation Act. The roles of
federal and state agencies in enforcing EEO law will be discussed.
Participants will examine the major elements of an affirmative
action plan and explore the application of affirmative action in
hiring. The course is designed for supervisors, managers and others
involved in carrying out personnel actions.

Employment Process: Successful Interviewing and Selection
Techniques
     Development of skills to select the best candidate. Topics
include an overview of the laws and regulations governing fair
employment practices, analysis of the job function, creation of
effective and legal questions and interview techniques.

     This program provides participants with the tools to analyze

Introduction to Supervision
     This NEW program is designed for supervisors with less than
one year of experience and for those preparing to move into a
supervising position within six months. It examines how the
supervisory role differs from a non-supervisory position, the
effects of personal power vs. positional power, the importance of
self-development and networking activities to growth as a
supervisor.

Sponsored Programs Administration Workshop
     Emphasizes all aspects of contract and grant administration.
Topics include proposal preparation through post-award
administration and close-out.

Setting Standards & Objectives
     This NEW program teaches supervisors how to establish
measurable, achievable standards to provide employees with
performance direction, criteria for evaluation and opportunities
for development. Participants will develop a system for monitoring
performance in a fair and accurate manner. During training,
participants will choose whether to write standards or objectives,
depending on the job description they bring for in-class practice
exercises.

Supervisor's orientation to the U.D. Personnel Policies and
Procedures
     An overview of the U.D. Personnel Policies and Procedures
Handbook and an introduction to the function of the Employee
Relations unit.
