          Name: Sherman Backous
          Show: Club 91.3
          Time: 3-5 p.m., Wednesday
          Occupation: Accounting major

Music is an integral part of my life," said Sherman Backous, who,
since September, has been working as a DJ every Wednesday for "Club
91.3" on WXDR.
Backous has been disc jockeying since he was in seventh grade,
growing up close to New York City, in Englewood, N.J. He learned to
play the trumpet in second grade and was in his school's marching and
jazz bands. He also sang in a church choir.
A part-time accounting major, he plans to switch to American
studies or political science. Music will not be absent from his
future; his ultimate goal is to own a record company.
Club 91.3 is urban progressive, playing the newest in rap, house
rhythm and blues, club tracks and hip-hop. Backous' favorite artists
include Run DMC, Public Enemy, Tribe Called Quest and Naughty By
Nature.
His audience ranges from high school students to 30 year olds.
Because Philadelphia radio stations do not play much rap music, his
show attracts people who enjoy keeping up with the latest black
musicians. The listeners are diverse, Backous explained, especially
because the station serves Delaware and parts of Pennsylvania, New
Jersey and Maryland.
