WXDR DJ: Chuck Donovan
Name: Chuck Donovan
Show: Java Time
Time: 6-9 a.m., Wednesday
Occupation: English major
Getting up before 6 a.m is not exactly Chuck Donovan's cup of
tea, he said, but working as a DJ for WXDR makes it all worthwhile.
The hobby started about two years ago when Donovan, then a freshman,
mistakenly walked in on a WXDR meeting in the student center. From
that point on, he began working in the radio station, initially
helping clean up and do odd jobs. Eventually, he got behind the
microphone. Now he does the Wednesday morning segment of "Java Time."
The wake-up show-a mixture of different kinds of music-is not
based on one particular style. As Donovan explained, it provides a
time when listeners can enjoy hearing songs that aren't played
constantly on top-40 stations. Whether planning ahead or just "winging
it," Chuck gets his music by browsing in the station's extensive
library or by hearing music other places that hasn't received much air
time.
"It would be nice to work as a DJ full time and get paid," he
said, "because this is what I love to do." But, since getting a
full-time position in radio is not easy, working as a DJ on the side
would suit Donovan just fine.
