Kappa Delta sorority 10th on campus
The first pledge class of the Kappa Delta sorority will be
initiated Saturday, May 2. The sorority is the 10th on the Panhellenic
Council of the University Greek system.
Sororities were first introduced on campus 20 years ago, with
four groups of young women. Since 1972, the number of women interested
in joining has grown, reflected by the increased number of sororities.
Derrica Wells, Kappa Delta national representative on campus,
said the sorority works to have members function as a group. She said
retreats and workshops are planned, as well as a few socials.
Gail Slevin and Allison Matos, two new Kappa Delta sisters, said
it's exciting to belong to this new campus group.
"Everyone in the group is very different," said Slevin, "and
everyone is really interested in getting to know each other."
