Honorary degrees
The Faculty Senate Faculty Advisory Committee on Honorary Degrees
is soliciting nominations from the University community for
consideration by the Board of Trustees.
Written nominations should be submitted, by May 15, to Carol
Hoffecker, acting associate provost for graduate studies, 234 Hullihen
Hall.
Personal safety
The Employee Assistance and Wellness Program and the Office of
Women's Affairs is sponsoring the "Personal Safety: Crime Prevention
Strategies" demonstration from 12:10-1 p.m.,Wednesday, May 6, in the
Rodney Room of the Perkins Student Center.
Kathy Owen of Newark Kempo Karate will demonstrate self defense
techniques.
No special clothing is required. Beverages are provided, and
participants should bring lunch. For more information, call 831-8063.
Hall closings
Students must move from the residence halls by 10 a.m., Friday,
May 29, unless they have a final examination scheduled that evening
and have registered with their hall directors.
Graduating seniors who reside on campus must move from their
rooms no later than 5 p.m., Saturday, May 30.
Faculty members with questions pertaining to residence hall
closings should contact hall directors.
Safe Walk returns
Sigma Chi fraternity and Phi Sigma sorority are cosponsoring the
Safe Walk Program this spring.
Representatives from both organizations will be in the Morris
Library Commons Room from 10 p.m.-midnight, Sundays through Thursdays,
offering students a "safe walk" escort to their cars, residence hall
rooms or the nearest bus stop.
The program was started three years ago to help students feel
more comfortable walking around the campus late at night.
Christina cleanup
Cleaning up the Christina River is one of the major events
occurring during Earth Week. The clean-up program, sponsored by the
Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control and
New Castle County, will take place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m, Saturday, April
25, at various sites between Newark and Wilmington.
Volunteers will help clean more than 30 miles of river bank.
Individuals with small motor boats and pick up trucks are especially
needed.
