David Pong, history, elected vice chairperson of Council of
Conferences, Association for Asian Studies (AAS). The council acts as
liaison between the eight regional conferences and the AAS in the
United States and promotes the teaching of Asia in elementary and
secondary schools.

Robert B. Carroll, plant and soil sciences, elected to a three-year
term as councilor, Potomac Division, American Phytopathological
Society, serving on the national executive committee of the
5,000-member professional association.

Thomas A. Evans, plant and soil sciences, elected vice president of
the Potomac Division, American Phytopathological Society, representing
Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.

Jeffrey A. Raffel, urban affairs and public policy, elected secretary
of the American Civil Liberties Union of Delaware.

Judith Carberry, civil engineering, received Gordon Maskew Fair Award
from the Chesapeake Water Environment Association for 1991. This is
the second time she has won the award, which is presented to the
outstanding academic environmental engineer in the Mid-Atlantic
states.

Marvin S. Gilman, urban affairs and public policy, appointed to the
National Mortgage Roundtable for 1992.
