Dynamic Delaware duo to cross country to promote wellness

A traveling twosome from Delaware, Veronica Pick and Kimberly
Borin, are cycling across the nation on the "Pacific to Atlantic
Bicycle Trek" to promote healthy, happy living to children.
Departing from Seattle May 23, on a 47-day, 3,480-mile journey to
Atlantic City, the two cyclists will visit communities along the route
as advocates and examples of drug-free, smoke-free lifestyles. At the
same time, they will raise funds for the American Lung Association
(ALA) and Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE).
Pick, whose family lives in Seattle, is a fitness specialist in
the University's Recreation and Intramural Programs, and has developed
some special exercises to get the duo shaped up for cycling.
Borin, who hails from New Jersey, has a bachelor's degree, and a
master's degree in college counseling and student personnel
administration in 1987 from the University. She is artist-in residence
at the College School in the College of Education, in addition to
working for the Boys Club of Delaware and the Rosenblum Adolescent
Center. An avid bicyclist, she has taken part in several races.
The two will join a group of 25 students from Rutgers University.
Rutgers senior Sam Hitman, who organized a similar bike trek two years
ago, is coordinating this effort. The group will be accompanied by
vans, holding promotional materials and gear.
The women agree the journey will be a challenge, but they are
facing the adventure with enthusiasm and determination.
"We have an important message about having a drug-free,
smoke-free, healthy body, and we are delivering it in an unusual way
that can impress children. At the same time, it will be a learning
situation for us as we cycle as a group across the country. We think
it will be an exciting and worthwhile experience," Pick said.
