Tourism conference
     The Lieutenant Governor's Tourism Conference will be held from 8 a.m. -
5:30 p.m., March 30, at the Christiana Hilton in Newark.
     The conference on "Building Your Competitive Edge: The Tools You Need
for Increased Profitability" will include keynote speaker Leonard C. "Buck"
Hoyle Jr., executive vice president of the Hotel Sales and Marketing
Association International. Luncheon will feature remarks by G. Donald Adams,
director of external affairs of the Henry Ford Museum, on the role of service
in attractions.
     Afternoon workshops will be presented on cost-effective marketing tools,
crisis preparedness, repeat business through the care and feeding of groups
and strategies for building convention and meeting business.

Trabant award deadline
     The deadline for applications for the E.A. Trabant Award for Women's
Equity has been extended until Friday, March 20.
     The award is given annually to any department, individual,
administrative unit or committee which has contributed to equity for women at
the University.
     Awards will be announced on March 25 and presented at a ceremony May 6.

Lunch and learn
     The Employee Assistance and Wellness Program is sponsoring a two-part
Lunch and Learn program entitled "Coping with Losses" from 12:10 - 1 p.m.
Tuesday and Wednesday, March 31-April 1, in the Ewing Room of the Perkins
Student Center.
     Guest speaker is Linda Wills, bereavement coordinator and counselor at
Children's Hospital in Philadelphia, who will discuss the use of a model of
empowerment to move toward healing after losses.
     The program is free and open to all University employees. Registration

Graduate proposals
     The Center for Teaching Effectiveness (CTE) is inviting graduate
students to participate in the annual conference for graduate teaching
assistants Aug. 24-25.
     The CTE is interested in presentations, panels, roundtable discussions
and interactive sessions focusing on general teaching and learning
strategies, in addition to programs emphasizing effective methods for
teaching in specific disciplines.
     Registration forms are available in Room 111 Newark Hall and must be
returned by March 27.

LGBSU conference
     The Lesbian Gay Bisexual Student Union is holding the Northeastern
Lesbian/Gay/Bisexual Student Alliance's annual conference March 27-29 on the
University's Newark campus.
     The conference will include speakers, workshop sessions, a dance,
concert and movie.

Education celebration
     Pascal "Pat" Forgione, state superintendent of the Delaware Department
of Public Instruction, will attend the Education Alumni Association's third
annual Spring T.G.F.T. (Thank Goodness for Teachers) Celebration.
     This year's event will be from 4:30-6:30 p.m., Friday, April 10, at the
Maple Dale Country Club in Dover.
     There will be free food, beverages, music, favors and door prizes.

World affairs program
     The World Affairs Council of Wilmington Inc. will present a public
program on "The U.S.-Japan Relationship at a Crossroads: Two Perspectives,"
at 7:30 p.m., Thursday, March 19, at the Goodstay-Wilcastle Center in
Wilmington.
     Speakers will include Jitsuo Tsuchiyama, associate professor of
international relations, Aoyama Gakuin University; and Keiko Atsumi,
commentator on Japanese economic and financial matters, U.S.-Japan Study
Group.

Computer camps
     The Department of Individual and Family Studies will sponsor again this
summer the Computers as Partners Project (CAPP), a two-week computer camp for
children ages 4-7.
     The camps are designed to provide children with an opportunity to
develop computing skills. Apple, Commodore, IBM and Macintosh computers will
be used along with an extensive library of discovery software.
     The camps will be held at the Newark campus from June 29-July 9 and from
July 13-23, Monday-Thursday each week. Children ages 4 and 5 attend from 9
a.m.-noon; older children ages 6 and 7 attend from 1-4 p.m.
     Cost is $150 per child, with some scholarships available.

Big Apple day trip
     The College of Human Resources will sponsor a bus trip Wednesday, April
22, to the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in New York City.
     The trip will include lunch in Peacock Alley, followed by a tour of the
hotel, and three hours for shopping at nearby Macy's, Saks Fifth Avenue and
Bloomingdale's, or sightseeing at Rockefeller Center and Times Square.
     Departure is at 8 a.m. from the Park and Ride lot on the corner of
routes 896 and 4 in Newark, with return expected at 7 p.m. Refreshments will
be served on the bus.

Voter registration
     The city of Newark will hold voter registration on Friday, March 20, at
the Newark Municipal Building on Elkton Road.

S.O.S. support group
     A women's support group for survivors of sexual assault is being offered
for faculty and staff members who may have experienced stranger rape,
acquaintance rape or sexual assault.
     The group is sponsored by S.O.S. For a confidential interview, call

Garden hotline
     The University Garden hotline-831-8862- has expanded its operating hours
from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
     The service is designed to answer questions on home gardening, lawns and
landscaping.
     Callers receive a recorded message and are instructed to leave a name,
phone number and the gardening question.
     The call will be returned within two days by a Cooperative Extension
master gardener. There is no charge for the service.

Ag open house
     The College of Agricultural Sciences invites high school students to
"Experience Agriculture" from 8:30 a.m.-2 p.m., Wednesday, April 8, in
Townsend Hall.
     Participants will have the opportunity to meet faculty and tour the
department of their choice. Visitors also will learn about the variety of
clubs open to college majors.
