Blue Hen fever ... catch it!
As these photographs show, March Madness met Blue Hen Bedlam on March 11
in Delaware Field House, and the campus and state have not been the same
since.
Each day since the Blue Hens humbled the Drexel Dragons 92-68, earning
their first-ever set of reserved courtside seats to the NCAA National
Basketball Tournament, a simmering countdown has been continuing toward
tomorrow's contest with the Cincinnati Bearcats.
For those who have just awakened from a three-decade coma, it's common
knowledge that followers of men's Blue Hen basketball have witnessed more
disappointments and dashed hopes than Democratic presidential candidates.
But, in the current, playoff-extended season, the team has delivered on
and done more than any other group of their basketball peers in Delaware's
87-year hoop history.
The home game streak, the sweep of the North Atlantic Conference, the
up-to-now. elusive 20-game winning season-all have been touted to death.
But the Hens have not only beaten their opponents, they've beaten the
odds. Very few fans honestly expected the Hens to continue winning,
especially during the last three regular season home games prior to the
tournament.
After all, the Hens could be expected to beat mere mortals but no one
banked on them defying the law of averages.
But they did. And they did it with poise and style, and after this
week's trip to the national tournament, Delaware basketball will never be the
same.
Go Hens!
