Student volunteers offering free income tax assistance

Free tax assistance is being offered by students in the Department of
Accounting, in association with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA)
program of the IRS.
VITA is run by the IRS to assist the general community in filling out
simple tax returns.
Lester W. Chadwick of the College of Business and Economics accounting
department has been the adviser of the program at the University for the past
few years.
The program is open to all students and campus employees as well as
residents of the community, Chadwick said.
"It's great experience and it is helping me get over the fear of filling
out these tax forms," VITA volunteer Jane Harwell said.
All of the student volunteers have taken the University's tax course
recently, and all the forms are reviewed by Chadwick before they are sent
out.
"From a quality standpoint," Chadwick said, "the probability of the
forms being incorrect is low."
VITA volunteers will process tax forms from 4-6 p.m., Tuesdays and
Thursdays, in 207 Ewing Hall, through April 9. Tax forms can be dropped off
in Ewing Hall.
For more information, call Chadwick at 831-1796.
