Bulletin board
ITV proposals due
Proposals for using Instructional Television (ITV)
studio/classrooms in Newark and Kirkbride halls for credit courses
during the 1992 summer and fall semesters and the 1993 winter and
spring semesters are due April 10. Assignments will be announced on
or before May 15.
Proposals for taping entire courses or portions of courses may
be submitted. Special consideration will be given to faculty who
have not used the facilities and whose courses have potential to be
used in the FOCUS program and/or to reach non-traditional students.

Exhibition hockey
Philadelphia Flyers' alumni Bob Kelly, Rick Macleish and
Reggie Leach will challenge the Info Systems Nighthawks in the Big
Brothers/Big Sisters Exhibition Hockey Game at 4 p.m., Saturday,
March 14, at the University Blue Ice Arena.
Info Systems, a computer solutions company based in
Wilmington, is corporate sponsor of the hockey tournament. The
event will also include a figure skating exhibition during
halftime, featuring world-class skaters from the University of
Delaware Skating Club.
Proceeds will benefit children from single-parent families.
Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at Big Brothers/Big Sisters.

Genetics Week
The Fourth Biennial Genetics Week in Delaware is scheduled
from March 23-27. The program is organized to educate health
professionals to meet the needs of different areas in the state.
Some of the scheduled topics include "Prenatal Diagnosis,"
"Ethical and Social Issues in Human Genome Mapping," "Newborn
Screening" and "Bone Marrow Transplantation for Treatment of
Genetic Disorders."
Program sites include the Christiana Hospital, University of
Delaware, Delaware Academy of Medicine, A.I. du Pont Institute and
Delaware State College.
Patricia A. DeLeon, professor of life and health sciences, and
Mary Ann Miller, assistant professor of nursing, are members of the
March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation and are involved in the
week-long program.

Belmont Salon
An Honors Salon Evening will be presented at 8 p.m., Friday,
March 13, at the Belmont Honors Community located in the lounge of
Ray Street Residence Hall C. Featured will be 10 student artists,
poets, and musicians who will present research in their respective
fields.

East Timor massacre
The East Timor massacre will be the topic of a program from
7-8:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 18, at 006 Willard Hall Education
Building.
East Timor is a small nation, illegally invaded and occupied
by Indonesia in 1975, after the Portuguese withdrew from the
country. The Indonesian military regime brutally repressed the
people of East Timor, culminating in the killing of 100 unarmed
East Timorese attending a funeral last November.
The event was photographed and witnessed by Western
journalists who eventually were able to report the massacre.
The program will begin with a film of the massacre
photographed by Chris Wenner from Yorkshire Television in Great
Britain. This will be followed by eyewitness accounts from
journalists Allain Norn of The New Yorker and Amy Goodman from
WBAI/ Pacifica Radio. A discussion will follow, led by Mark Miller,
associate professor of political science, and Douglas McLeod,
assistant professor of communication.
The program is jointly sponsored by the University of Delaware
Campus Coalition for Human Rights and the United Campus Ministry.
Bryn Mawr Institute
The University will sponsor one woman to attend the Bryn Mawr
Summer Institute for Women in Higher Education Administration this
year.
The institute, which is a residential program, will be held on
the Bryn Mawr College campus June 28- July 24. The curriculum
offers women faculty and administrators intensive training in
education administration in the areas of academic environment,
institutional environment, academic governance and professional
development and informal curriculum.
This year's program will emphasize the growing diversity of
the student body and the work force, and will prepare participants
to work with issues currently facing higher education.

nomination or self-nomination to the program.
Nominations must be received by March 23.
Bulgarian labor camps
Kalina Ivanov will give a film presentation/lecture on The
Longest Shadow, a documentary on Bulgarian labor camps, from 7-9,
tonight, in 004 Kirkbride.
Born in Sofia, Bulgaria, Ivanov escaped to the United States
with her family in 1979. A graduate with honors of New York
University Film and Design School, she has won several awards for
short films dealing with social and political issues that she has
written and directed. Among her credits are The Last Day in June ,
which received an Oscar nomination and several other awards, and
Scavengers, which has been featured at several film festivals.
To film The Longest Shadow, Ivanov returned to Bulgaria in
1990 to investigate the imprisonment of both her grandfathers in
1951. The documentary on Bulgarian labor camps was screened in New
York as part of The Human Rights Watch Film Festival.
The program is sponsored by the Office of International
Programs and Special Sessions.
Environmental issues
The Student Environmental Action Coalition (SEAC) meets
regularly at 7 p.m., Wednesdays, in 112 Memorial Hall.
On Thursday, March 19, a representative of Greenpeace will
give a presentation to the group about the ozone depletion problem.

AAUW nominations
The Newark branch of the American Association of University
Women is seeking applicants for its annual award of $100 for an
outstanding senior woman with a minimum 3.25 index who has
demonstrated academic achievement and campus and community service.
Applications are available at the Office of Women's Affairs, 303
Hullihen Hall, and must be returned by March 27. The award will be
presented at Honors Day, May 12.
