'Messenger' available
Copies of the latest edition of The Messenger, the publication
for alumni and friends of the University, are available in the
reception area of the Office of Public Relations at 150 S. College
Ave.
St. Andrew's concert
The Department of Music will present a special chamber music
concert at 4 p.m., Sunday, March 15, in the Chapel of St. Andrew's
School, Middletown.
The program will feature organist David Herman and the
Del'Arte Quintet presenting music for solo organ, woodwind quintet
and duos for organ and winds.
Admission for the general public is $12.50. University staff
will be admitted at a special rate of $5.
Only 100 tickets are available and may be purchased at the
Department of Music office, 209 Amy E. du Pont Music Building.
A reception will follow in the St. Andrew's commons room. For

Effective teaching
The Center for Teaching Effectiveness' 1992 spring lunchtime
programs are scheduled from 12:45-2 p.m., Tuesdays, during March
and April, in the Perkins Student Center.
Scheduled programs include: "Why I Teach the Way I Do:
Reflections on Teaching," March 10, Ewing Room; "Strategies for
Catching and Holding Students' Attention," March 17, Collins Room;
"Dealing with Disruptive Students," March 24, Collins Room; and
"Applying Cognitive Development Theory," April 7, Collins Room.

Toddlers' study
The Department of Psychology is conducting a study of the
behavior of normally developed children between the ages of 2-1/2
and 3-1/2. Participation involves one visit to the Newark campus
office. Registrations are being accepted now.

Child's Play April 3
Child's Play Touring Theatre will present "Do the Write
Thing," a presentation of stories and poems by Delaware area
children, on Friday, April 3, in Clayton Hall.
The social hour will begin at 6:30 p.m., dinner is scheduled
for 7:30 p.m. and the performance will take place at 8:30 p.m.
Cost ranges from $50 per person for supporters, $75 per person
for patrons; and $100 per person for benefactors.
The event is a major fundraiser for the Michael and Charles
Barnett Center at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. These
children, who died of Leigh's disease, were the sons of Allen M.
Barnett, professor of electrical engineering, and his wife, Marsha.
The center is dedicated to research and treatment of this
hereditary metabolic disorder, which robs its victims of movement,
energy and, eventually, life.
The event is sponsored by MBNA America. Partial funding for
the performance is provided by the Playhouse Theatre. Additional
underwriting has been provided by the employees of AstroPower,
Delaware Trust Co. and Happy Harry's Inc.

Food for Russia
The women of Gamma Sigma Sigma sorority are coordinating the
involvement of campus organizations in the collection of food for
the Russian Student Relief Project.
The statewide effort is being organized by students Wendy
White, and Alaine Esposito, The Delaware Council for U.S-U.S.S.R.
Relations is directed by Zoeanne Nelson, Delaware '86.
An airlift of food will be sent to children in three Moscow
schools. Items of particular need are five-pound bags of rice,
flour or sugar, one-pound boxes of spaghetti and canned tuna fish
or meat.
During the preliminary test run of the collection program on
Feb. 28, nearly two tons of food donations were accepted from three
schools.
The collection pick-up site for University fraternities and
sororities is the Perkins Student Center storage room, located
across from the Rodney Room. The site will be open from 10 a.m.-3
p.m., March 9-10.
Donations will be accepted from the general public in the
Perkins Student Center East Lounge through March 10.

Novel reading
Cruce Stark, professor of English, will read from his new
novel, Chasing Uncle Charley, recently published by Southern
Methodist University Press, at 7:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 10, in 110
Memorial Hall.
Recital canceled
The Department of Music faculty recital scheduled for 8 p.m.,
Wednesday, March 11, has been canceled.
Poetry session
English Prof. Gibbons Ruark will present a reading of his
original poetry about Ireland, in honor or St. Patrick's Day, at 8
p.m., Wednesday, March 18, in Volume II Bookstore, 58 East Main
St., Newark.
After the free public reading, a reception and autograph
session will be held.
