Awards to recognize those who enhance women's status
The Office of Women's Affairs and the Commission on the Status
of Women are sponsoring several awards for members of the
University community who have enhanced the life and status of women
on campus or furthered research on women.
These awards are open to both women and men, with the
exception of the Bessie Collins and the Mae Carter awards-which are
given to outstanding returning adult women students.
The Student Travel Awards and Special Travel Awards support
women students, faculty and professionals who are presenting
scholarly papers and participating in panel discussions at
professional conferences. They also are designed to support male
students, faculty and professionals whose presentations focus on
women's issues.
The Student Travel Awards support the efforts of graduate and
undergraduate students, and the maximum award is $100. The Special
Travel Awards are open to all faculty and professionals, and a
maximum of $200 per person will be awarded. Departmental matching
of the funds is required. The application deadline for both awards
is March 16.
The Student Research on Women Conference is open to all
students who have completed research on women or gender issues.
Proposal abstracts should be submitted to the Women's Studies
Program, 333 Smith Hall, by 4:30 p.m., March 9. Papers are due
Monday, April 6. The writers of the winning papers in both the
graduate and undergraduate divisions will each receive a
President's Award of $150.
The E. Arthur Trabant Institutional Award for Women's Equity
