D. Allan Waterfield, physical education, athletics and recreation,
selected one of 24 Sesquicentennial Alumni at Ohio Wesleyan
University. The 1962 graduate gave a presentation, "The Crystal
Ball: Trends in the Future of Physical Education," at the cremony
Jan. 31.

W.D. Snodgrass, Distinguished Professor in Creative Writing and
Contemporary Poetry, received the 1991 Thomas H. Carter Prize from
Shenandoah, the Washington and Lee University Review, for best
essay of 1991. Titled "Shapes Merging and Emerging," the essay was
published in vol. 41, no. 4 .

Peter Vagenas, theatre, was elected to a two-year term as
chairperson of the United States Institute of Theatre Technology,
Chesapeake Section.

Henry Tingey, mathematical sciences, elected chairperson of the
U.S. Army Wilks Award selection committee, which recognizes Army
and university researchers. He was also appointed to the newly
formed statistics coordinating group of the Army Research Office,
which  provides an interface between Army and academic
statisticians.

Charles E. Mason, entomology and applied ecology, re-elected
chairperson of the NC-205 USDA regional research committee for
1992-93.

Gonzalo R. Arce, electrical engineering, appointed associate editor
of the IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing and appointed to
second term to the digital signal processing technical committee,
IEEE Circuits and Systems Society.

Stanley I. Sandler, Henry Belin du Pont Professor of Chemical
Engineering, an additional $88,514 from U.S. Department of Energy,
for "New Generation of Group Contribution and Equation-of-State
Models," bringing total funds awarded to $468,076.

Karl M. Unruh, physics and astronomy, an additional $53,768 from
U.S. Office of Naval Research, for "Thermal Transport Properties of
Granular Metal Films," bringing total funds awarded to $179,231.

Richard L. Venezky, Unidel Professor of Educational Studies, with
