Employee Development and Training
Training courses help employee development
Three salaried staff members have embarked on a journey to
enhance their careers and increase their professional skills. Sandy
Jamison, office coordinator, Continuing Education; Ginny Greene,
senior secretary, College of Education; and Rita Girardi, executive
secretary, College of Nursing; are the trainers for the employee
development course, "Introduction to University Forms and
Recordkeeping."
Their quest to become trainers began last summer. A
comprehensive Train the Trainer program, specifically designed to
train them to present "Introduction to University Forms and
Recordkeeping," was conducted by Edwina R. Haring, employee
development administrator.
The demanding schedule of study and practice in the Train the
Trainer program included topics such as adult learning theory,
instructional program design, facilitation and presentation skills.
The three women and others who participated had several "dress
rehearsals." They have conducted the "Introduction to University
Forms and Recordkeeping" class three times, training employees.
When asked about this career enhancement opportunity, Girardi
said, "It's a lot of hard work, I'm having fun and meeting many
great co-workers." Jamison and Greene concurred.
In addition, all three women said this opportunity helped them
improve their speaking skills, interpersonal skills and coaching
abilities. Haring expressed appreciation to their supervisors for
supporting their career enhancement efforts by granting released
time so they could participate.
Career enhancement opportunities are abundant at the
University of Delaware. A little ingenuity, flexibility, and
direction plus the support of the supervisor can lead to new areas
of professional growth for salaried staff members.
