What's cooking?
The University of Delaware Women's Club is compiling a
first-edition cookbook.
The purpose is to increase support for its Continuing
Education Scholarship Fund and International Hospitality Group.
Members of the University community are invited to share a
favorite recipe or two. Submissions must include a list of
ingredients, procedures and special tips or recommendations.
All recipes must include the individual's name, address and
phone number. This information will be used to credit the submitter
and, if necessary, clarify any questions.
All recipes must be submitted by March 30 to Susan Cicala,
3245 Orchard Rd., Newark, DE 19711, or they may be sent through
Campus Mail, care of George Cicala, Department of Psychology.
Campus blood drive
Blood Bank of Delaware will hold a campus blood drive from 10
a.m.-4 p.m, Wednesday and Thursday, Feb. 26-27, in the Rodney Room
of the Perkins Student Center.
The drive is sponsored by the Arnold Air Society of Air Force
ROTC and Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship.
No appointment is necessary, and students, faculty and staff
are urged to participate.
Donating blood takes an hour. Donors are reminded to eat a
good meal within three hours of giving blood. Donors may credit
their blood donation to a specific Blood Bank membership account.
Future campus blood drive dates are March 18 and 19, April 21
and 22 and May 6 and 7.
SDALL registration
In-person registration for the spring semester of the Southern
Delaware Academy of Lifelong Learning will be held from 10 a.m.-2
p.m., Feb. 27, at the University's Milford Center, 15 Southwest
Front St., Milford.
Mail-in membership and registration forms are available by
calling the academy at 424-5000.
AV on reserve
Faculty and staff who need audiovisual equipment from the
University's inventory must make requests at least two business
days in advance.
The Instructional Technology Center (ITC) Audiovisual Services
area maintains a variety of equipment that is ready for classroom
use and available for checkout and delivery.
Among the items included in this inventory are videocassette
players, computers, slide projectors, tape recorders, lecterns,
public address systems, microphones, speakers and television
monitors.
Equipment checkout is free for numbered and lettered courses.
Audiovisual services staff members provide orientation and
training for any of the equipment and will advise users on what
equipment is best for specific uses.

Programs on teaching
The Center for Teaching Effectiveness will offer several
programs throughout the semester as part of its Spring Lunchtime
Program at the Perkins Student Center.
"Strategies for Actively Engaging Students in Lectures in
Large Classes" will be offered from 12:45-2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 25,
in the Collins Room.
"Alternatives to the Lecture-Ways to Actively Involve
Students" will be presented from 12:15-1:30 p.m., Monday, March 2,
in the Collins Room.
Future topics include "Why I Teach the Way I Do," March 10;
"How to Avoid 'Glazed Eyes' in the Classroom," March 17; "Dealing
with Disruptive Students," March 24; and "Applying Cognitive
Development Theory," April 7.

College open house
The College of Engineering and the Engineering College Council
will sponsor an open house from 6-9 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 20, in
conjunction with National Engineers Week.
After an overview session in Newark Hall auditorium at 6 p.m.,
the departments of chemical, civil, electrical and mechanical
engineering will provide demonstrations and tours of laboratory
facilities. Student presentations of ongoing research also will be
featured.
