Introduction to University Forms and Recordkeeping
This training program, piloted in spring 1991, is designed for
salaried staff who work with common University forms. Through
completion of various in-class exercises, participants will create
a reference manual for their professional use. Competency in
administrating University forms is listed as a job responsibility
in the salaried staff career matrix.

National Safety Council Defensive Driving Course
An eight-hour presentation of the National Safety Council's
Driver Improvement Program. Topics include crash-avoidance
techniques, rules of the road and safe-driving practices. What can
the DDC do for me? (1) three point credit added to your driving
record by satisfactorily completing the eight-hour Defensive
Driving Course (Del.). (2) Insurance discount of 10 percent each
year for three years on your motor vehicle liability insurance
premium when you complete the course (Del.).

Developing Leadership Competencies
This program is targeted for supervisors and managers with
several years of management experience. It is an advanced level
program in which participants examine the role of self development,
follower attributes, and the group behavior in the context of
leadership development. In addition, participants complete a self
assessment and elicit anonymous feedback from subordinates ranking
the frequency with which they practice five leader competencies.

Primer on Affirmative Action for Supervisors
Review of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) laws and judicial
actions related to age discrimination, sexual harassment, Americans
with Disabilities Act and the Rehabilitation Act. The roles of
federal and state agencies in enforcing EEO law will be discussed.
Participants will examine the major elements of an affirmative
action plan and explore the application of affirmative action in
hiring. The course is designed for supervisors, managers and others
involved in carrying out personnel actions.

Introduction to Supervision
This NEW program is designed for supervisors with less than
one year of experience and for those preparing to move into a
supervising position within six months. It examines how the
supervisory role differs from a non-supervisory position, the

Setting Standards & Objectives
This NEW program teaches supervisors how to establish
measurable, achievable standards to provide employees with
performance direction, criteria for evaluation and opportunities
for development. Participants will develop a system for monitoring
performance in a fair and accurate manner. During training,
participants will choose whether to write standards or objectives,
depending on the job description they bring for in-class practice
exercises.

Service success!
Recently a new customer service program- "Service Success!"-
was piloted in Billing and Collection. Feedback from participants
was overwhelmingly enthusiastic, and the program is now offered to
the University's salaried staff community. Service Success! is a
five part series. Each session builds on the previous session's
topics. Certificates of completion are awarded to individuals who
complete the entire program. Participants may select either morning
or afternoon sessions for each individual class to accommodate
personal and department schedules.
Series 1: Understanding Customer Perceptions
Instruction includes completing the Service Perceptions
Questionnaire, discussion of service issues in the "Education
World," defining the education "customer," and learning how
customer perceptions influence situations.
