Heart award

Officer Carlos Carter (center) is shown with Lawrence Thornton
(left), associate director, and Douglas Tuttle, director of the
Department of Public Safety, at a brief ceremony Aug. 30, where
Carter was presented with a plaque from the American Heart
Association of Delaware, recognizing him for saving a life by
successfully administering CPR. On Dec. 20, 1990, Carter
administered CPR to Sam Sheppard, a supervisor in custodial
services, when he was suffering a heart attack. Carter, who also is
a member of the security police in the Air Force Reserve, was
activated during the Middle East crisis. He returned to the
University this summer.
