On Dec. 20, 1990, Carter administered CPR to Sam Sheppard, a supervisor in custodial services, when he was suffering a heart attack. Carter, who also is a member of the security police in the Air Force Reserve, was activated during the Middle East crisis. He returned to the University this summer.
