Robert P. Gilbert, Unidel Professor of  Mathematical Sciences,
honored with two-volume monograph in celebration of his 60th
birthday to be published by Longman-Pitman in 1992. Among the 30
contributed papers from authors around the world were articles by
David Hallenbeck and George Hsiao of the Department of Math
Sciences.

Susan Brynteson, libraries, appointed to two-year term, access to
information resources committee, Association of Research Libraries.

Ardeshir Faghri, civil engineering, appointed chairperson of neural
networks subcommittee of the artificial intelligence committee for
the Transportation Research Board, National Research Council.

Joan S. Bennett, University Honors Program, presided at the Milton
Society of America annual meeting and chaired the open session on
Milton at the Modern Language Association convention, Dec. 28-30,
San Francisco.

Robert R. Jordan, Delaware Geological Survey and geology, appointed
for two years to National Research Council committee to assess the
adequacy of environmental information for Alaskan outer continental
shelf oil and gas leasing decisions.

Timothy Targett, marine studies, with graduate student Tom Lankford
received best poster presentation award at Estuarine Research
Federation, XI Biennial International Conference, San Francisco.

Jin Wu, H. Fletcher Brown Brown Professor of Marine Studies and
Civil Engineering, awarded the Ocean Science Educators Award by the
Office of Naval Research, for demonstrated success in training
quality doctoral or postdoctoral students in the field.

Kenneth J. Campbell, political science and international relations,
received best paper award for "The U.S. Military's Vietnam Syndrome
and the Gulf War," at Northeastern Political Science Association
annual meeting.
