New phone system brings changes in call forwarding

If you have been using "72" to forward your phone to another number
and "73" to stop the forwarding (so that your calls return to your
number), there are two changes you should know about.
     1) Someone must actually answer the number when you dial "72" to
forward your calls or, if the line is busy or not answered, you
must immediately hang up (or depress the switchhook for two
seconds). Then, at the dial tone, redial the forward command.
You should hear three tones to verify call forwarding being
        activated.
     2) If someone calls your line while your phone is forwarded, your
phone will issue one short ring. However, the call will be
forwarded. This ring is only to remind you that call forwarding
is in effect on your line. A call cannot be answered on this
        line.
You may continue to originate calls, but will not receive any,
while call forwarding is in place.
Examples:
     * To forward your phone to extension 9999, pick up the telephone
receiver, listen for the dial tone, then press these numbers:
        729999.
You will hear three short tones followed by a dial tone after you
press 72. After you press 9999, that phone will ordinarily ring.
If someone answers the phone, notify them that you have forwarded
your calls to that number and hang up. If no one answers or if the
number is busy, press the switch-hook for two seconds, listen for the
dial tone, then press 729999 again. After you hear the three tones to
verify that call forwarding has been being activated, you can hang up.
     * To turn off call forwarding, pick up the telephone receiver,
listen for the dial tone, then press 73.
You will hear two quick tones, confirming call forwarding being
turned off, and then a dial tone. You can then hangup or place a
call.

Please note:
Diamond State Telephone has changed the name of this feature from
"call variable" to "call forwarding universal."
Not all University phones have this feature activated. For
information, call, Telephone Service at 831-2411.
