Memorial service for Dr. Bill Baron
A memorial tribute for Bill N. Baron, former deputy director of the
University's Institute of Energy Conversion (IEC), will take place at
2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 8, in Room 125 Clayton Hall. Dr. Baron died
Jan 11.
Born on July 22, 1943, Dr. Baron received his bachelor's degree
from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1966, his doctorate in
chemistry from New York University in 1972 and then became a
post-doctoral fellow in the University of Delaware physics
department.
From 1975-79, Dr. Baron was an associate scientist with IEC,
a laboratory devoted to thin film photovoltaic cell research and
development. He was appointed assistant to the director in 1979 and
served as deputy director from 1986 until his death. A professional
staff researcher at IEC, he was known for his interest in education and
teaching students how to carry out creative and effective research.
Dr. Baron also was a registered patent agent for the United State
Patent and Trademark Office since 1982.
