New data base
COMPENDEX PLUS database is now available on the University's DELCAT
PLUS database.
EI ENGINEERING MEETINGS and COMPENDEX, from January 1987 through
December 1991, are offered through the new system. They will be updated
on a monthly basis.
EI ENGINEERING MEETINGS gives with summaries to over 600
international engineering and technology conferences. COMPENDEX
provides information for 2,400 engineering and technology
journals.
DELCAT PLUS data base is available in the Morris Library, all
branch libraries, from computing sites, on the campus network or via
dial up from home or office.
International night
The 23rd annual International Night, sponsored by the Cosmopolitan
Club, will be held from 7-9 p.m., Saturday, March 7, in the Amy E. du
Pont Music Building.
Students and members of the community will demonstrate customs and
traditions from international cultures through song, dance, slide shows
and readings. The event will conclude with a fashion show exhibiting the
traditional dress of over 20 countries. Admission is $1.

Professional awards
The Professional Bonus Awards program will award 30 $1,000 cash
bonuses to eligible employees in recognition of exemplary performance.
Performance must be related to the introduction of innovative
procedures, the adoption of cost-saving techniques, personal
contributions that aided in achieving departmental goals or outstanding
service to members of the University or community.
Full-time professional staff with at least one year of University
service are eligible, excluding officers of administration, deans,
chairs, directors of major functions and other defined senior
professionals.
An individual, peers or supervisor may make a recommendation for an
award. The individual's criteria will be reviewed by a panel or other
review mechanism, which will be determined by each vice president.
The vice president will select the winner based on the
recommendations of the panel. The vice president for employee relations
will approve all recipients, after consulting with the University
president.
Applications for nominations are available through the vice
presidents.

Daffodil campaign
The American Cancer Society will hold a daffodil campaign to raise
funds for research, education and patient services programs.
Advance orders of the "flowers of hope" will be taken until Feb.
17. A bunch of 10 daffodils costs $10. A half case, or 25 bunches, is
$250. All half-case and full-case orders will be delivered free by
Federal Express. Orders will arrive March 19, in time for Daffodil Day,
March 20.
Delaware head football coach Harold "Tubby" Raymond, chairperson of
the sale in New Castle County, urges business leaders and others to
assist in reaching this year's goal of selling 600 cases of flowers.
Several University staff members also have volunteered their
assistance. Jayne Fernsler, nursing, and Kay Wood, admissions, are
taking orders for daffodils for the Newark area.

Testing, counseling
The Psychological Services Training Center in the Department of
Psychology provides testing and counseling to children, adults and
families of staff members and those in the surrounding community. Fees
are based on income.

Language courses
Foreign language courses will be offered to University staff and
their spouses during the spring semester by the Office of International
Programs and Special Sessions, in collaboration with the Department of
Foreign Languages and Literatures.
The classes are designed to meet the needs of professors as
researchers by emphasizing communication skills and cultural awareness.
Sessions will begin the week of Feb.17 and end the week of May 18.
The non-credit courses are free.
"Beginning French" and "Beginning German" will be held Mondays from
5-8 p.m. "Intermediate French" and "Beginning Spanish" will be held
Tuesdays from 5-8 p.m. The "Advanced French" course will meet on
Tuesdays from 6-9 p.m. "Intermediate Japanese II" will be held on
Thursdays from 5-8 p.m. The time and day for "Intermediate Spanish I"
will be announced.
Classes are limited to 20 and will be filled on a first-come,
first-served basis. Applications can be obtained from the Ofice of
International Programs and Special Session, 325 Hullihen Hall.
Teleconference today
The University's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual Concerns Caucus will
sponsor a teleconference titled "Understanding and Meeting the Needs of
Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual Students" from 1-4:30 p.m., today at Studio B
in Newark Hall.
The live, interactive teleconference and the panel discussion after
it will focus on the needs of gays, lesbians and bisexuals as college
students and on campus policies on non-discrimination and
anti-harassment.
The conference is a project of the National Association of Student
Personnel Administrators, in conjunction with the National University
Teleconference Network, and will be moderated by Carol Randolph, a
Washington, D.C., attorney and former television news anchor and
talk-show host.
Space is available for 40 individuals on a first-come, first-seated
