Center responds to campus visitors
The welcome mat at the Visitors Center is out for all comers--
prospective undergraduates and families, future graduate students,
parents and grandparents, visiting faculty, vendors, people coming
to see special exhibitions, others who want information about
cultural events and, occasionally, the lost and confused.
Everyone walking through the door gets VIP treatment from the
Visitors Center staff: Faye Duffy, assistant director of
admissions, and Florine Henderson, service coordinator, who greets
guests in the reception area. Representing the University Honors
Program there are Louis Hirsh, assistant dean of admissions, and
Joyce Hastings, staff assistant.
Well marked by signs and flanked by a parking lot, the center
is a hub of activity where prospective students come to learn about
the University and to take campus tours. Students are shown a
video, "Why Delaware?", have their questions answered, take a
guided walking tour, returning later to the center for another
question-and-answer period and coffee.
Some staff use the facility to meet out-of-town visitors and
lecturers.
Statistically speaking, the following is the countdown on the
number of visitors at the center:
September - 403 visitors, including 102 prospective students
October - 710 visitors, including 358 prospective students
November - 571 visitors, including 261 prospective students
December - 160 visitors, including 96 prospective students
The center is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., weekdays, and from 9
a.m.-1 p.m., Saturdays. It will remain open on Martin Luther King
Day, Jan. 20.
