Visiting professor donates book

     Jose Mondejar-Cumpian, distinguished visiting professor in the
Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures, recently presented
a copy of his latest book, Dialectologia andaluze, Estudios, a
study of the form of Spanish spoken by the 7 million Andalusians in
southwest Spain, to Susan Brynteson, director of libraries.
     A scholar whose expertise is Spanish philology,
Mondejar-Cumpian is a professor at the University of Granada. He
has written several articles and books and is editor of Coleccion
Filologica and Publicaciones de la Catedra de Historia do la Lengua
Espanola. He also has taught at the University of Seville, the
University of Heidelberg and the University of Bari in Italy.
     After his stay in Newark, he will teach a seminar for doctoral
candidates at the University of Pisa in Italy during March and
April and then visit the University of Moscow. There, he will
conduct several seminars on the Spanish language and philology.
     The University of Delaware and the University of Granada have
had an exchange agreement since 1988, initiated by Richard Zipser,
chairperson of foreign languages and literatures. During the fall
semester, approximately 15 Delaware students are enrolled in the
exchange program with that institution. More than 35 students have
enrolled in the program for Winter Session.
