Employee Development and Training; Professional resource center offers
   customized assistance

The Professional Staff Resource Center, located in Room 403 of
the Academy of Newark Building, opened Sept. 15. The purpose of the
center is to offer support services, information and direction to
employees seeking individual career advancement.
To date, more than a dozen University professionals have come
to the center to begin counseling and career mapping with Liane
Sorenson, director of the Office of Women's Affairs.
"The career mapping process has three parts," Sorenson said,
"an assessment of the person's current position, a career map and
a plan of action." No one involved has yet completed all three
parts of the career mapping process.
In addition, the center is open for professionals to come in
at their convenience and utilize the books and other career
development resources available. (See accompanying list.) In the
near future, the center's services will be expanded to include
assistance for salaried staff as well.
For further information about the center, or to arrange a
career counseling appointment, call Liane Sorenson at 451-8063.
