International math conference scheduled on campus in 1993

     The sixth International Conference on the Teaching of
Mathematical Modeling and Applications (ICTMA 6) will be held at
the University of Delaware from Aug. 15-19, 1993.
     The conference is designed to provide a forum for the
presentation and exchange of information, experiences, views and
ideas among those engaged in research or practice in the teaching
of mathematical modeling, models and applications.
     Cliff Sloyer, professor of mathematical sciences, will direct
the conference.
     Sloyer also will be a member of a 10-person U.S. team that
will visit  Korea later this month. The U.S. representatives will
visit the University of Seoul as part of the U.S./Korea Comparative
Analysis of Mathematics Education. The Nov. 23-39 program is
sponsored by the U.S. State Department.
     According to Sloyer, a similar team is scheduled to visit the
U.S., and there is a high probability that the University of
Delaware will be part of the Korean group's itinerary.
