Holiday closings
The University will observe the following holiday closings.
All offices will be closed from Tuesday, Dec. 24, through
Wednesday, Jan. 1. All offices will re-open at 8 a.m. on Thursday,
Jan. 2.
In accordance with the University's Personnel Policies and
Procedures manual and the AFSCME collective bargaining agreements,
eligible salaried staff and hourly employees required to work on a
holiday will be paid for hours worked at time-and-one-half in
addition to the regular rate, or will be given compensatory time
off at time-and-one-half, with the dates to be mutually agreed upon
by the employee and supervisor.
Germany scholarships
Two undergraduate scholarships for study in Germany are
available for students in all majors who are currently sophomores
or juniors.
Candidates must have knowledge of German, since they will
study in that language.
The scholarship, funded by the Federation of German-American
Clubs for 1992-93, covers everything except transportation,
admission fees, mandatory health insurance and personal expenses.
Students will be able to choose from among 18 different German
universities.
For further information, call the International Center at
451-2115.
Application deadline is Feb. 28.
Honors on Tuesday
The earlier announcement that Honors Day 1992 would be held on
Friday, May 8, is incorrect.
Due to scheduling conflicts with University facilities needed
to conduct the annual event, Honors Day will be celebrated as
originally planned, on Tuesday, May 12.
Shifting Honors Day to a Friday in the future is still under
serious consideration, and the decision will be announced well in
advance so units and departments will be able to make the necessary
arrangements and reservations.
RASA nacho night
Members of the Returning Adult Student Association (RASA) invite
adult undergraduates to a social at the Deer Park Restaurant-
featuring free nachos- at 5 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 26.
For more information, call 451-8020.
The butt stops here
For those who have thought about life without a cigarette, who
have wanted to stop smoking and who could not do it on their own,
the American Cancer Society, in cooperation with the Employee
Assistance and Wellness Program, will offer help.
From 11 a.m.-1:30 p.m., today, during the Great American
Smokeout, the society will provide information at a table near the
University Bookstore in the Perkins Student Center.
Information will be available for all who who want to kick the
habit.
Attention, F-1 students
New F-1 student regulations regarding work and extension of
stay will be discussed at a meeting from 2-4 p.m., Monday, Nov. 25,
in the Ewing Room of the Perkins Student Center.
