Q&A
How does payroll deduction work?
If you choose to contribute through payroll deduction,
the amount you request will be deducted each payday.
Then, twice each year, you will receive an acknowledgment
from the Development Office. The first will indicate the
amount that you have given between July 1 - Dec. 31 and
the area(s) to which you have designated its use; the
second will cover the period from Jan. 1 - June 30.
How do I decide where to designate my gift?
Unrestricted funds offer the greatest flexibility of use
and are extremely valuable to the University. Some
employees may want to support the area in which they
work; others will have favorite and perhaps unrelated
areas of special interest. Gifts to either or both are
appropriate and appreciated!
If I choose more than one designation, how will my gift be split?
Unless you specifically indicate an amount for each, your
gift will be split equally among your designations.
Who will know how much I contribute and how I designate my gift?
Only a few persons in the Development and Payroll Offices
will see your gift records. These individuals deal with
highly personal information each day and will treat your
gift with utmost confidentiality. If you do not mark the
box requesting to be anonymous, your name and the gift
amount will be sent to the administrator of the
designated account after the end of the calendar and
fiscal years, so that they may thank you for your gift.
If you request to be an anonymous donor, your name and
the amount you give will not be released to anyone. Be
sure to mark the box at the bottom of the form if you
wish anonymity.
Will alumni employees be solicited for the Annual Fund by both the
employee campaign and the regular alumni solicitations?
Yes, in this initial year and perhaps in the future. It
is hoped that alumni employees will take advantage of the
ease of contributing offered by payroll deduction. New
donors will find it convenient. Continuing donors may
find that they can contribute at higher levels than
before. Alumni employees have a dual and special
relationship with the University, and as such, may wish
to be especially generous. Alumni contributions made
through the employee program will count as being from
both alumni and employees; their totals will not count
twice, however.
Will I feel pressure to contribute from my superiors?
Employee gifts to the University of Delaware are entirely
voluntary. There should be no pressure from your co-
workers or your superiors. Your decision to contribute to
the Annual Fund's Employee Campaign should be yours
alone. Of course, it is hoped that you will want to be a
part of this opportunity to support U.D. in a new way.
How about employees who are parents of current students?
For a number of years, the Parents Association has been
soliciting parents of current students. Some employees
may receive multiple annual giving solicitations. If they
can possibly support each appeal, that would be
wonderful; if not, it is their option to support
whichever or as many as they choose.
