Female athletes recognized
President David Roselle helped recognize two student athletes
at half-time ceremonies Nov. 2.
Linda Cyborski received the NCAA Division I championship
plaque as 1990-91 Free Throw Shooting Champion for her outstanding
93.7 percentage last season. The record included 74 out of 79 free
throws. Cyborski was not only the category champion last winter but
her percentage is an NCAA Division I all-time, single-season
record. Presenting the award were President David Roselle and
women's basketball coach Joyce Perry.
Physical therapy graduate student Jill Hershey, who last year
served as co-captain of both the field hockey and women's lacrosse
teams, was named State of Delaware NCAA Senior Female Athlete of
the Year. Hershey graduated last year with an honors degree in
biology and earned All-East Coast Conference (ECC) playing honors
in both field hockey and lacrosse. She was an ECC scholar-athlete
in both sports as well as the league's overall outstanding scholar-
athlete for 1990-91.
In recognition of her academic and athletic excellence and her
contribution to the Delaware community, Hanes Her Way, co-sponsor
of the award with the NCAA, presented the University's women's
athletic program with a $5,000 donation in Hershey's name.
With Hershey at the ceremony were field hockey and lacrosse
coach Mary Beth Holder and Associate Athletic Director Mary Ann
Hitchens.
