Coverage for children
Some employees may be thinking now about medical coverage for
their dependent children who are reaching age 21.. Two commonly
asked question are, "How long will my child continue on my health
insurance?" and "What about dental coverage?"
Under Blue Cross/Blue Shield's Basic, Basic Plus,
Comprehensive, Total Health Plus, HMO and HMO Copay plans, coverage
ends Dec. 31 of the year the dependent child reaches age 21. There
is no extension for full-time students.
Principal Health Care coverage also stops on Dec. 31 following
the dependent child's 21st birthday. However, Principal will
continue coverage for full-time students until the end of the month
in which the dependent child reaches age 24.
Metropolitan Life will continue dental coverage until the end
of the month in which the dependent child reaches age 19. For a
full-time student and a dependent (according to Internal Revenue
Service regulations), dental coverage will continue until the end
of the month in which the child reaches age 23.
Alternative coverages are available for dependent children who
"age-out" of their parent's coverage.
For more information, call Benefits at 451-8129.

those students enrolled in Winter Session.

Membership miles
American Express has recently announced a Membership Miles
program that gives University Corporate Cardholders the opportunity
to enroll and earn one mile for each dollar spent on the card.
The cost of the program to the cardholder is $50 per year, and
will be the responsibility of the cardholder.
Membership Miles may be redeemed in three different ways,
provided at least $5,000 each year is spent:
* For frequent flyer miles in the program of six airlines:
Delta, Continental, Northwest, Southwest, MGM Grand Air
and Midway;
* For hotel and cruise packages; and
* For unique experiences with noted celebrities.
If an individual has a personal American Express card in
addition to the University Corporate Card and has enrolled in the
Membership Miles program through the personal card, expenditures on
the Corporate Card may be combined with the personal card, at no
additional fee.
For information, contact American Express at 1-800-521-0220.
Of special interest
The Office of Housing and Residence Life is accepting
proposals for new special-interest housing communities in residence
halls for students arriving in fall 1992.
Information sessions are open to interested faculty members
and students. They will be held in the Ray Street C lounge from
7-8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 19, and 4:30-6 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 21.
Special-interest communities are formed around a common
academic, social or cultural interest and are housed in the Ray
Street residence halls. Some of the current communities include
such diverse interests as French, Spanish, German, music,
education, technology, Hebrew, nursing, farming and honors.
Proposals require information on the new community's purpose
and goals, a list of eight interested students and specific faculty
support.
Proposals may be submitted by faculty members or students. The
deadline is 5 p.m., Dec. 13.
Application forms and additional information are available
from Barbara Rexwinkel at 451-2952.
