Preventing crime

The following tips are designed for all members of the
University community and their visitors.

     * When walking at night, use the best-lighted route. Try not
to walk alone. Use the buddy system. Arrange for a co-worker to
walk with you to your car.

     * Know the location of emergency phones on the campus. These
phones provide direct contact with Public Safety, to report a
problem. Merely pick up the receiver. Campus maps are available
from public safety that show the locations of these outdoor
emergency phones (which are identified by distinctive blue lights)
in addition to well-traveled pedestrian routes and the location of
shuttle bus stops.

     * When walking to your parking lot, have your keys out and
ready so you will not have to stand outside your car looking for
them in your handbag.

     * Consider in advance what you would do if confronted by a
criminal. Psychological preparation can help you avoid becoming a
crime victim.
