Class of 1995 from everywhere
Who are the new faces on the University of Delaware campus and
where do they come from?
At last count, 3,273 freshmen and 718 transfer students,
making a total of 3,991 new students are expected in Newark at the
beginning of the fall semester. As in every college and university,
there is a rate of attrition at the beginning of the semester so
the tally will not be official until late September.
As one would expect, Delaware leads the other 49 states in the
number of in state students, with 1,166 freshmen and transfers. New
Jersey is closely behind with 1,139, followed by Pennsylvania with
668 students.
Neighboring Maryland is next with 390 students, and New York
state is represented by 364 students.
From the New England region, there are 91 students from
Connecticut, 27 from Massachusetts, six from New Hampshire and one
from Vermont.
Moving southward, there are 59 students from Virginia, eight
from Florida and two from Georgia.
Five Texans are coming to the University and one student hails
from Oklahoma.
The midwest is represented by six students from Illinois, four
students from Ohio and two from Indiana, Minnesota and Michigan,
respectively.
Some students are crossing the continent to come to Newark.
Seven Californians will attend the University, and one student from
Colorado and one from New Mexico will be here this fall.
The Virgin Islands is represented by one student.
From outside the United States, the University will be
welcoming 28 new students from other countries.
