Spring concert season

The Department of Music will present a series of concerts this spring highlighting faculty and student artists and ensembles. All performances are in the Loudis Recital Hall of Amy E. du Pont Music Building, unless otherwise noted.

Free public performance by the Army Blues, the U.S. Army's premier jazz ensemble, concluding the first annual University of Delaware Jazz Festival for high school and junior high school jazz bands and jazz choral groups.

UD Faculty Jazz performs with Sinfonians Jazz Combo.

Resident Conductor Grant Cooper and pianist Olga Kern of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra present workshops in the Amy E. du Pont Music Building. The workshops are free and open to the public. Locations to be announced.

SATURDAY, APRIL 12, 8 P.M.


The UD Performing Arts Series presents the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra with Daniel Hege, music director. Conducted by Grant Cooper, the orchestra's program features soloist Olga Kern, the 2001 Van Cliburn Piano Competition Gold Medalist. SUNDAY, APRIL 13, 2 P.M.


Faculty artists Patrick Evans, baritone, and Marie Hadley Robinson, soprano, join the Schola Cantorum, directed by Paul D. Head, in performances of famous arias and opera choruses in "A Night at the Opera."

The UD Opera Workshop presents "You're Gonna Love Tomorrow"--a Stephen Sondheim revue, featuring songs from Company, Follies, A Little Night Music, Pacific Overtures, Sweeney Todd and more.

SUNDAY, MAY 4, 2 P.M.


The annual Student Concerto/Aria Competition Winners Concert, conducted by Robert J. Streckfuss. Since 1984 the Department of Music annually has presented winning student soloists, selected by a guest panel of judges, in concert with a symphony orchestra composed of players from the major regional orchestras.

Del'Arte Wind Quintet, featuring Eileen Grycky, flute; Lloyd Shorter, oboe; Charles Salinger, clarinet; Jon Gaarder, bassoon; and Cynthia Carr, horn.

SATURDAY, MAY 10, 8 P.M.


The UD Chorale, directed by Paul D. Head, prepares for its upcoming European tour with "On the Far Horizon." The performance includes works by Josquin, Bruckner and Orban, along with a selection of American folksongs and spirituals.

SUNDAY, MAY 11, 2 P.M.


The faculty series concludes when pianist Julie Nishimura is joined by Eileen Grycky, flute; Christopher Hutton, cello; and baritone Patrick Evans in a special Mother's Day concert featuring works by Philippe Gaubert and Jennifer Barker.
