4 TECH REDESIGN GRANTS AWARDED

An acknowledged leader in the use of technology in the classroom, the University is continuing this tradition through its Technology-Enhanced Course Redesign Grant Program. In its first year, the new program encourages faculty to take advantage of the many opportunities available through technology to enhance teaching at UD, by applying for grants that require matching funds from their college.

"The University is highly supportive of efforts in integrating information technology into the teaching and learning process," Bobby Gempesaw, vice provost for academic and international programs, said. "With the assistance of this three-year technology-based grant program, faculty will have the opportunity to redesign large, introductory courses and use active learning approaches, particularly in support of our general education initiatives."

In addition to funding, other resources will be available to assist with the course redesign projects, including IT, the Center for Teaching Effectiveness and the University Library staff.

The proposals receiving funding for 2002-03 are:

Leila Lyons, director of IT-User Services, chaired the proposal review committee. Other committee members were William Idsardi, chairperson of the linguistics department; Avron Abraham, associate professor of health and exercise sciences; Gabriele Bauer, teaching consultant in the Center for Teaching Effectiveness; Jinfa Cai, associate professor of mathematics; and Janet de Vry, manager; Paul Hyde and Erin Sicuranza, both information resource consultants III; all of IT-User Services.
