Put Your Heels on Wheels" is a new free Thursday late-night bus service, running as a pilot program running through Dec. 12.

Sponsored by the UD Student Alcohol Use Committee and funded by the Building Responsibility Coalition (BRC), a campus/community partnership, the bus will depart periodically from the Newark Shopping Center beginning at 11 p.m. It will make three more stops on and near Main Street, including Main and Academy streets, Elliott Hall and Old College and then loop by several apartment complexes and UD residence halls. The last bus will depart at 1:40 a.m., with off-Main Street stops by request only until 2 a.m.

Schedules will be posted in residence halls, on bulletin boards and in Main Street bars, restaurants and retail stores. The new bus service and schedule also will be announced in The Review.

"All members of the BRC, and particularly the students, are concerned about personal safety on and off campus," Tracy Bachman, BRC project coordinator, said. "Since Thursday nights out on Main Street have become more popular, this new bus service will provide an alternative to walking or driving home in the early morning hours."
