ELVERU TO EDIT UPDATE AND UDAILY
Larry Elveru will become editor of UpDate beginning with the October issue. Elveru takes the editorial reins from Ed Okonowicz, who retires Sept. 14 after 22 years of University service. Okonowicz has helped produce UpDate since 1988.
As senior editorial coordinator in the Office of Public Relations, Elveru also will manage UDaily, UD's online news service.
Elveru previously worked for UD from 1988-91, when he edited the University's annual report and established the University of Delaware Magazine, which has since evolved into the Messenger, UD's quarterly publication for alumni, friends and parents of current students.
Elveru returned to the University from Wilmington-based Christiana Care Health System, where he was a corporate communications manager for six years. In that role he was primarily responsible for managing internal communications, including Christiana Care's award-winning biweekly newsletter Focus.
From 1991-94, Elveru was publications manager for SunGard Recovery Services in Wayne, Pa. There he edited a quarterly corporate magazine, newsletters and marketing materials for the computer services company. While working for a local communications and graphic design firm, Elveru also edited newsletters for the DuPont Co. and Conoco.
A member of the International Association of Business Communicators, Elveru is a resident of West Grove, Pa. He received his bachelor's degree in sociology and did graduate work in journalism at the University of Minnesota.
