VPI professor to deliver Nowinski Lecture

Ali H. Nayfeh, University Distinguished Professor at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, will deliver the Jerzy L. Nowinski Lecture for Applied Mechanics, at 2:30 p.m., Friday, September 13, in 116 Gore Hall.

A fellow of the American Physical Society, the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the American Academy of Mechanics, Nayfeh also is editor of the Wiley Book Series on Nonlinear Science and the editor-in-chief of Nonlinear Dynamics and Journal of Vibration and Control.

Books by Nayfeh include: Perturbation Methods (1973), Nonlinear Oscillations (1979), Introduction to Perturbation Techniques (1981), Problems in Perturbation (1985) and Nonlinear Interactions: Analytical, Computational, and Experimental Methods (2000).

The Nowinski Lecture Series, which began in 1975, honors Jerzy L. Nowinski, professor emeritus of mechanical engineering, for his contributions to the field of applied mechanics.

The lecture is free and open to the public.
