Rousing Ragtime Concert!

A ragtime concert featuring world-renowned xylophonist Bob Becker will be held 8 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 3, in the Loudis Recital Hall of the Amy E. du Pont Music Building.The free public concert is presented by the UD Community Music School in conjunction with the second annual Bob Becker Ragtime Xylophone Institute, a summer program for accomplished xylophone players, scheduled July 20-Aug. 3.

Joining Becker on stage will be Harvey Price, UD assistant professor of music, and members of this year's xylophone institute.

A founding member of the percussion ensemble Nexus, Becker, whose performing experience spans nearly all of the musical disciplines where percussion is found, is recognized as one of the world's premier virtuoso performers on the xylophone and marimba. He has performed and recorded with the Paul Winter Consort, Gil Evans, Chuck Mangione and others.

Becker has appeared as a soloist with the Israel, Brooklyn and New York philharmonics and the London Symphony. His compositions and arrangements are featured regularly in performances by percussion groups worldwide.
