JEFFREY MILLER, professor of economics, gave a briefing on the economic situation in Bulgaria to the new U.S. ambassador to that country at the request of the U.S. State Department.

AWARDS

MARY HEMPEL, director of the Office of Public Relations and assistant to the president, received an award as University Volunteer of the Year for her support of the Downtown Newark Partnership at the first awards program of that organization held at Trabant University Center's Daugherty Hall in April.

PETER M. HEINZ-UWE HAUS, professor of theatre, received the distinguished Visiting Professor Award from the Royal Swedish Research Council at the University Lund/ Teaterhoegskolan I Malmoe, Sweden.

JULIE MAPES WILGEN, assistant professor of individual and family studies, received the Alumna of the Year 2002 in Human Ecology award April 20 from the Texas Exes of the University of Texas at Austin, recognizing her teaching and mentoring of undergraduate students.
